Merano-Maia, one of the most spectacularly situated racecourses in the world, provided the perfect venue for the EMHF's General Assembly on May 3rd and 4th.

Rome had been the site of the 2012 General Assembly and the offer from MASAF (the Italian Ministry responsible for racing) for Italy to play host again was warmly welcomed.

Delegates were treated to a mixed card - including a Cross Race race, the code for which Merano is best known, against a stunning backdrop of snow-capped mountains.

The meeting included presentations on the EU's review of its animal welfare legislation, the EMHF's survey of European trainers' keeping practices and the work of the Organization of Racing Investigators. But much of the second day broke with tradition to spend time considering the strategic direction of the Federation over coming years.
