Third annual Beach Racing Association meets in Spain

The European Beach Racing Association staged its third annual meeting in Sanlucar de Barrameda, Andalusia. Generously hosted by Javier and Rafael Hidalgo (the latter the President of the racecourse), delegates included, for the first time, representatives of the Duhner Wattrennen race meeting in Lower Saxony. Jos van de Meer, its President, gave an interesting presentation of racing at Germany's sole Thoroughbred Beach Racing venue. Jonathan Perree, Head of Racing at the Channel Islands Horseracing Authority, then outlined his plans to open a new beach racetrack near the capital of Jersey, St Helier. Delegates were then treated to a splendid opening day's racing of Sanlucar's season - the first of six fixtures on the sand which are traditionally held every August.
