The EMHF's European Union Committee has been in discussions with Jean Arthuis, MEP, Head of the European Parliament's Committee on Budgets, on problems and shortcomings in the statutory funding of European horseracing. EU Committee members initially met with M. Arthuis, Chair of the MEP Horse Group, during our annual Brussels Mission last July. M. Arthuis has taken a keen interest in the subject and has facilitated two Workshops, the first in Paris in October, and most recently in Brussels in March. The Workshops have also been attended by representatives of the UET (European Trotting Union), and Racing Authorities and Betting Operators from a number of European nations. Further talks are planned on the potential for pan-European harmonisation of funding.
